NSYNC - Live From Madison Sguare Gaden 2000 Here's the full 90-minute show that 'N Sync performed live on HBO at Madison Square Garden in July 2000, including footage of fans outside the Garden before the show telling the camera how much they want to meet their idols. The taped show itself is flashy and professional, full of costume changes and allowing each Sync singer his own lead as they work their way through more than a dozen of their hits, including "It's Gonna Be Me," "Space Cowboy," and of course "Bye Bye Bye." Still, for a group that prides itself on its mildly hip-hop dance styles, the camera work is surprisingly slipshod when it comes to capturing the five boy-toys dancing in unison. The perfect gift for that 13-year-old girl in your life. Neil Diamond - BBC Radio 2 - Electric Proms 2010 - Live at The Roundhouse, London; October 30, 2010 It’s likely fans have worn out many a copy of Neil Diamond’s Hot August Night so much so that when it comes to the end of Cherry Cherry at the Roundhouse, one begins to anticipate the opening bars of Sweet Caroline (which was how it was on Hot August Night)… so ingrained is the show in one’s memory. Hot August Night, released in 1972, was not only a hit album but probably presented Neil Diamond at the height of his prowess as a singer and performer - where he could effortlessly plumb the lows on any song. It is also probably the album to compare his live performances and, 38 years later, Diamond hasn’t aged too badly. He can still do Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon without slurring his lines - “I’ve been misunderstood for all of my life/But what they’re sayin’, girl, just cuts like a knife/’The boy’s no good’ “ - easy to sing when you’re young but it sure can trip you up. And the strain shows on And I Am… I Said. And Diamond is such a pro that you even welcome his hocking his new album, Dreams. (It’s the Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show after all.) For the “new” songs on Dreams, such as Midnight Train To Georgia, Ain’t No Sunshine and I’m A Believer, while Midnight Train is basically Gladys Knight’s and one wouldn’t think of it as a Diamond cover, Diamond has slowed down the tempo and given it his own touch; and similarly with the “reinvented” I’m A Believer (a Diamond song made famous by The Monkees). But then again, Diamond has always left his own stamp on other people’s songs - on the Stones album, he had The Last Thing On My Mind, Husbands And Wives, If You Go Away, Suzanne and I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today (the album was bookended by I Am… I Said). It’s hard to listen to these songs and not think of Diamond’s mournful vocals. Already back in 1971, Diamond had a blueprint for his covers album(s)! As on 2008’s Hot August Night/NYC, Diamond appears very gracious and grateful to be entertaining the fans and while this may not be his last hurrah, it sure is nice of him to have Lulu as a guest (whoever still remembers The Boat That I Row?). Listening to this show is fun but it’d be great to watch the TV broadcast, especially when it’s in high-def. Even then, it’d still be too short! Johnny Cash - The Anthology (2002) Amazon.com Sure, Johnny Cash is a country superstar and a founding father of rock & roll--but why, exactly? Johnny Cash: The Anthology is an efficient and highly enjoyable effort to answer that question through a rare historical perspective. Comprised of a 54-minute documentary and a supplementary film entitled Half Mile a Day, The Anthology places Cash dead center at the junction of gospel and blues traditions: between the isolation of hard living in America, delusional guilt from too much sin, and the fragile redemption of love. Drawing upon archival footage of Cash performing his earliest crossover hits ("Five Feet High and Risin'," "I Walk the Line") and including comments by admiring peers (Rodney Crowell, Porter Wagoner), The Anthology makes a compelling case for Cash as a master of knife-edged economy and a populist oracle from a younger, perhaps scarier, America. If it has become too easy over the decades to take Cash for granted, The Anthology sets things straight. --Tom Keogh Product Description Johnny Cash is, without question, one of the most powerful and important performers in the history of country music, and an artist whose influence has touched musicians as diverse as Marty Stuart, Tom Waits, and Elvis Costello. Johnny Cash: The Anthology is a two-part video tribute to the Man in Black's remarkable life and career, in which Cash and some of his close friends from the music world perform a handful of his best-known songs. Guest artists include Merle Haggard, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Rodney Crowell, and Glen Campbell; songs include &"I Walk the Line," &"Big River," &"Folsom Prison Blues," &"Cry Cry Cry," &"Ring of Fire," &"A Boy Named Sue," &"Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," and many more. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide DVD Features: Product Details Actors: Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Jack Clement, Jessi Colter, Rodney Crowell Directors: Al Greenfield Producers: Al Greenfield, Gregory Hall, Kristen Topping Format: DVD 9, Best Of, Color, DVD, NTSC, 640X480 Language: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo) Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only.
