1. Terry Lautz, "Americans in China: Encounters with the People's Republic" English | ISBN: 0197512836 | 2022 | 344 pages | PDF | 18 MB Americans in China tells the dramatic stories of individual women and men who encountered the People's Republic of China as adversaries and emissaries, mediators and advocates, interpreters and reporters, soldiers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and scholars. In Americans in China, Terry Lautz provides a series of biographical portraits of Americans who have lived and worked in China from before the Communist era to the present. The pathbreaking experiences of these men and women provide unique insights and deeply human perspectives on issues that have shaped US engagement with the People's Republic: politics, diplomacy, education, business, art, law, journalism, and human rights. For each of these Americans, China was more than just another place: it was an idea, a cause, a revolution, a civilization. Some of them grew up in China while others were motivated by curiosity and adventure. Some believed Red China was an existential threat while others looked to the People's Republic as a socialist utopia. Still others-including a number of Chinese Americans-worked to improve US-China relations for personal or professional reasons. Looming over their narratives is the quandary of whether divergent Chinese and Western worldviews could find common ground. Was it best to abide by Chinese norms, taking into account China's unique history and culture? Or should individual civil and human rights be defended as universal? Would China move in the direction of Western-style liberal democracy? Or was the Communist Party destined to follow an authoritarian path? The figures in this book had distinctive answers to such questions. Their stories hold up a mirror to our two societies, helping to explain how we have arrived at the present moment. 2. Alliances & Armor: Communist Diplomacy and Armored Warfare during the War in Vietnam by Jim Pomeroy English | July 10, 2025 | ISBN: 1636245366, 9781636245379 | True EPUB | 174 pages | 11.3 MB The People's Army of Vietnam's decision to utilize armor as part of its warfighting strategy was a product of various geopolitical factors that surrounded Hanoi during various parts of the Vietnam War. During the First Indochina War, the People's Republic of China (PRC) emerged as the foremost communist benefactor of North Vietnam. The Soviet Union however, largely stood by. While worried by the PRC's and Soviet Union's actions during the Geneva Conference of 1954, Hanoi still felt the need to maintain good relations with both countries. This was reinforced when the Sino-Soviet split occurred in 1956 and Hanoi was forced to walk a tight rope between Beijing and Moscow. As the United States escalated its war in Vietnam, Moscow (now under new leadership) sought to increase its material support for Hanoi. As the war progressed, Hanoi sought to fight larger battles against the Americans and their South Vietnamese allies. In order to fight larger battles, the PAVN needed more modern military equipment that only the Soviet Union could provide. This, paired with the chaos of the ongoing Cultural Revolution in China, led Hanoi to lean more towards Moscow in the latter years of the Vietnam War. As part of this newly blossomed relationship, Moscow began to furnish the PAVN with more modern weapons including Soviet armor. Initially, the PAVN's use of armor at Lang Vei (1968) and Laos (1971) was met with some success. However, in 1972, Hanoi panicked as the United States began to reach "détente" with Beijing and Moscow. This led to fears of another Geneva and thus lead Hanoi to pursue a rushed "Easter Offensive" in March 1972 which saw ill-trained PAVN tank crews fall prey to poor planning and bad strategy. This changed in 1975 when following the Paris Peace Accords and subsequent combined arms training in the Soviet Union, the PAVN victoriously drove its Soviet armor into Saigon. 10. Kristin Swenson, "A Most Peculiar Book: The Inherent Strangeness of the Bible" English | ISBN: 0190651733 | 2021 | 288 pages | MOBI | 1217 KB The Bible, we are constantly reminded, is the best-selling book of all time. It is read with intense devotion by hundreds of millions of people, stands as authoritative for Judaism and Christianity, and informs and affects the politics and lives of the religious and non-religious around the world. But how well do we really know it? The Bible is so familiar, so ubiquitous that we have begun to take our knowledge of it for granted. The Bible many of us think we know is a pale imitation of the real thing. In A Most Peculiar Book, Kristin Swenson addresses the dirty little secret of biblical studies ― that the Bible is a weird book. It is full of surprises and contradictions, unexplained impossibilities, intriguing supernatural creatures, and heroes doing horrible deeds. It does not provide a simple worldview: what "the Bible says" on a given topic is multi-faceted, sometimes even contradictory. Yet, Swenson argues, we have a tendency to reduce the complexities of the Bible to aphorisms, bumper stickers, and slogans. Swenson helps readers look at the text with fresh eyes. A collection of ancient stories and poetry written by multiple authors, held together by the tenuous string of tradition, the Bible often undermines our modern assumptions. And is all the more marvelous and powerful for it. Rather than dismiss the Bible as an outlandish or irrelevant relic of antiquity, Swenson leans into the messiness full-throttle. Making ample room for discomfort, wonder, and weirdness, Read more Uploady https://uploady.io/02z0ugmo1ufg/7x349.7z RapidGator https://rg.to/file/0a126d665433e9289769dd6ef70eed82/7x349.7z.html UploadCloud https://www.uploadcloud.pro/f9w3jfahqdn3/7x349.7z.html Fikper https://fikper.com/qX1HehVZKn/7x349.7z.html FreeDL https://frdl.io/lrva9lqahz9v/7x349.7z.html

 12. A History Of Iceland: An account of Iceland from its early settlement to the present day (World Histories) by Alex Bugeja English | October 3, 2024 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0DJHK22BS | 164 pages | EPUB | 1.55 Mb Forged by volcanic fire and scoured by colossal glaciers, Iceland is an outlier on the world stage, a nation whose history has been profoundly shaped by the raw, elemental power of its landscape. This comprehensive account traces the remarkable journey of the Icelandic people, beginning with the land's geological birth on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It explores the whispers of its first visitors-reclusive Irish monks-before chronicling the arrival of Norse Vikings who, fleeing a consolidating Norwegian king, established a unique and stateless society. At the heart of this medieval republic was the Althing, one of the world's oldest parliaments, and a rich literary tradition that produced the legendary Sagas and Eddas, preserving a heroic past that would sustain the national spirit for centuries to come. The narrative then follows Iceland through its most difficult centuries, beginning with the end of independence in 1262. It chronicles the struggle for survival under foreign rule, marked by the suffocating Danish Trade Monopoly, the devastation of the Black Death, and the apocalyptic Laki eruption of 1783, a natural disaster that poisoned the land and led to the catastrophic "Mist Hardships." Yet, through it all, the memory of the old Commonwealth endured. This book details the slow dawn of nationalism and the peaceful but relentless campaign for autonomy led by the tireless statesman Jón Sigurðsson, a struggle that culminated in the restoration of sovereignty in the early 20th century. Finally, this history navigates the dramatic turmoil and transformation of modern Iceland. It recounts the nation's strategic importance during World War II and the Cold War, the tense "Cod Wars" with Great Britain, and the profound social changes that saw Iceland become a global leader in gender equality. The book provides a clear-eyed view of the nation's heady embrace of neoliberalism, the subsequent, spectacular 2008 financial collapse, and the defiant "Pots and Pans Revolution" that followed. It concludes by exploring the Iceland of the 21st century-a country rebuilt on an unprecedented tourism boom, navigating the challenges of climate change, and forging a new identity in an ever-changing world.
