Aca Zappa marca una evolucion, dentro del jazz y la música clásica, con elementos del doo-wop, de melancolía, del rock and roll, y de clips de sonido de la película, todo esto en forma de satira. El álbum es unido por sus melodías soñadoras, la corriente de letra de conocimiento (muchos acerca de lugares y acontecimientos en las vidas de suburbanos adolescentes de LA), y un conjunto de temas y subtemas musicales y variaciones idiomáticas de bandas sonoras cinematográficas.
