Se trata una producción, que se gestó, arregló y produjo en un tiempo récord de ocho meses. "Tales" se compuso con base en textos védicos que Jon retomó de la autobiografía de Paramhansa Yoganada, a los cuales se incorporaron letras, melodías y armonías que construyeron Steve y Jon, en sesiones frenéticas que realizaban en los hoteles, después y antes de los conciertos de la gira. En este libro se habla de los Vedas y las escrituras shantricas, textos sagrados de la religion hindu que cubren todos los aspectos de la religion y la vida social; asi como tambien los campos de la medicina, la musica, el arte y la arquitectura. Ademas estos textos contienen codigos politicos, legales y morales. La letra ofrece una explicacion acerca de la "Ciencia Reveladora de Dios", entendida como "una flor que siempre se esta abriendo". El movimiento describe la grandeza de la vida y el mundo y del conocimiento de Dios por los hombres. En el centro tenemos al protagonista que busca a traves de las dotrinas y los mandamientos tener un acercamiento a la "Ciencia Reveladora de Dios"; y con los cambios musicales nos podemos dar idea de sus cuestionamientos internos, sus dudas e incertidumbres, pero por sobre todo su constante afan de busqueda. Para Jon Anderson, este tema simplemente "habla del 'amanecer de la luz', del poder y del amor". Tambien se recrea el sabor de las grandes civilizaciones perdidas que constribuyeron a la formacion de la humanidad; y como para afirmar el recuerdo de esas pasadas tradiciones, Los Antiguos recitan los nombres de primitivas divinidades del sol (desde las romanas hasta las aztecas). El concepto incluido en este movimiento esta basado en los Tantras y habla acerca de la sabiduria de la vida y lo positivo del amor puro. Segun la letra, la vida es una lucha entre el mal y el amor puro. El movimiento empieza con una introduccion que recorre buena parte de los motivos musicales desarrollados en los tres partes previas. La letra despliega un optimismo extremo casi como utopico. Jon Anderson declaro: "Al final del 'Tales..." pusimos una cancion de amor, algo muy personal. Creo que mucha gente necesita amor, fortaleza y una especie de energia que los acaricie. Recuerdo, alguna vez, haberme sentido totalmente perdido, y tras escuchar a los Beatles cantar 'All You Need is Love", pense: '!
