[b]What you'll learn[/b]
Students will gain a base knowledge of disability inclusion.
Students will be introduced to language, terms, and equipment used in the adaptive fashion space.
Students will start to explore the intersection of fashion and disability.
Students will learn about various types of disabilities and clothing related challenges associated with those disabilities.
[b]Requirements[/b]
No prior adaptive fashion knowledge or experience needed, just an interest in learning about adaptive fashion and becoming a more inclusive member of society!
[b]Description[/b]
This introductory, beginner course sets the stage for the next 9 courses on adaptive fashion. By providing an education on language around disability, terms and definitions, and clothing challenges faced by various disability groups, students will gain a baseline understanding upon which to build their adaptive fashion knowledge. This course is intended for individuals in the fashion industry interested in learning more about adaptive fashion. This course will benefit designers, production managers, merchandisers, buyers, e-commerce specialists, marketing teams, company executives, and more. No prerequisites are needed for this course. In the first lecture of this course, you will be introduced to your instructor, Tracy Vollbrecht, and learn what makes her uniquely qualified to teach this course. The next lecture will introduce you to the format, intentions, and outcomes of this course. In lecture 3, we will establish a foundation for disability inclusion by discussing language, key terms used throughout the course, and technology used in the disability community. In lecture 4, the first part of Disability & Clothing, we will begin to cover various disability groups and how they interact with clothing. Lecture 5, Part 2 of Disability & Clothing, will wrap up the remaining disability groups and how they interact with clothing.
