Sin embargo, ya llevábamos un tiempo con la versión 4 y la gente de IK Multimedia ha decidido poner al día el software por completo, lanzando así Amplitube 5. Por supuesto, incluye nuevos equipos (algunos salidos de su otro software, T-Racks): 100 nuevas pantallas de altavoz, 5 amplis, 2 pedales, 19 nuevos equipos de rack y 2 salas nuevas (entornos en los que grabar el ampli para captar su reverberación y coloración). Pero aparte de esto, que era previsible, se ha revisado del todo la tecnología que gestiona las simulaciones de altavoz, incorporando el sistema VIR (Volumetric Impulse Response). Se basa en capturar un gran número de respuestas a impulsos (parece ser que han sido 143.000 IR's) realizadas con un sistema robotizado, para obtener una simulación tridimensional del sonidos de cada una de las 100 nuevas pantallas. Además, también es posible captar nuestras propias IR's al software. La siguiente mejora interesante es la mayor flexibilidad de la cadena de audio, que ahora permite configuraciones Wet Dry Wet (ya vimos algo por el estilo en Amplitube 4 Brian May), y cadenas seriales y paralelas más avanzadas. En dichas cadenas, ahora será posible cargar hasta 57 bloques simultáneos. También hay un nuevo mezclador que, en la sección DAW del programa, nos permitirá hacer mezclas de pantallas microfoneadas, la señal DI, panoramizarlas, controlar niveles y buses y aplicar cualquiera de los nuevos 19 efectos salidos de T-Racks para procesar pistas. El entorno gráfico y la interfaz también ha mejorado en algo: ahora es escalable para adaptarse a diferentes entornos y se ha variado el menú de la Custom Shop para hacerlo más fácil.
