Paint.NET es imagen y edición de fotos software gratuito para PC que ejecutan Windows. Cuenta con una interfaz de usuario intuitiva e innovadora con soporte para capas, deshacer ilimitado, efectos especiales y una amplia variedad de herramientas útiles y de gran alcance. Una comunidad en línea activa y creciente proporciona ayuda amistosa, tutoriales y plugins.
Comenzó el desarrollo como un proyecto de diseño de alto nivel universitario de pregrado apadrinado por Microsoft, y se mantiene actualmente por algunos de los ex alumnos que originalmente trabajaban en él. Originalmente concebido como un reemplazo libre para el software Microsoft Paint que viene con Windows, se ha convertido en una poderosa herramienta de imagen y editor de fotos con todo simple. Se ha comparado con otros paquetes de software de edición de fotos digitales, tales como Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, y The GIMP.
