James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix, Seattle, United States, November 27, 1942 - London, UK, September 18, 1970) was an American musician and songwriter. Hendrix is considered the best electric guitarist in the history of popular music, and one of the most important musicians of the twentieth century. Musically influenced by American rock and roll and electric blues, after having initial success in Europe with his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, achieved fame in the United States after a concert at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Later, he led the Woodstock Festival in 1969, and the Isle of Wight Festival 1970, before his death at age 27.
