Shemekia Copeland. Born Charon Shemekia Copeland in 1979 in Harlem, New, York, daughter of gitarrista legendary Texan Johnny Copeland, began developing his career in his early teens, ostentanto a powerful very suitable voice for the soul and in line with Koko Taylor and Etta James. Her father encouraged since age 8 singing, taking the Cotton Club during their performances and raising it to the stage.
When he was 16 years and opened the concerts on tour bluesman, and had made a name for himself in the blues circuit. He signed his contract with Alligator only 19 years old, and that year released his debut album "Turn The Heath Up! '. From then on I had more publicity and toured the US and Europe.
In 2000 publishes' Wicked', where appears to duet with one of her heroines, diva early R & B Ruth Brown.
The album earned him a fair amount of WC Handy Award nominations and won three: Song of the Year, Album of the Year and contemporary blues female artist of the year. His next album, 'Talking To Strangers', was produced by the legendary pianist Dr. John, and to date has continued turning and releasing albums for Alligator and Telarc.
