The Rothko Chapel continues its tradition of celebrating the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. 's with the music of Texas blues legend Johnny Brown.

It is with great sadness and regret that we share the news of the death of an American treasure and true blues legend. John Riley Brown, better known as Texas Johnny Brown, was diagnosed with liver and lung, last April cancer, and after a short but gallant fight with the disease died this afternoon (Monday, July 1, 2013) to the age of 85 at his home in Houston, Texas.

With a career that spanned more than six decades, Texas Johnny Brown (February 22, 1928 - July 1, 2013) variously worked with Joe Hinton, Amos Milburn, Ruth Brown, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Lavelle White, Buddy Ace and Junior Parker .
