John "Peter" Chatman, better known as Memphis Slim, is listed as one of the best pianists in the history of the blues. It was very smart to take at face value the advice of Big Bill Broonzy, in the sense of developing a style that came from what he said his heart and not the imitation of his idol, Roosevelt Sykes.
