An amazing artist, very prolific, which gave an air of urban sophistication to the blues in each of his subjects. John "Peter" Chatman, better known as Memphis Slim, is listed as one of the best pianists in the history of the blues. It was very smart to take at face value the advice of Big Bill Broonzy, in the sense of developing a style that came from what he said his heart and not the imitation of his idol, Roosevelt Sykes. Soon, others were copying Slim.

Recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival and Blues 1973.

Musicians:

Piano, Voice - Memphis Slim
Bass - Charlie Meyers
Drums - Melvyn Jones
Lead Guitar - Joe Hammer
Rhythm Guitar - Mickey Baker
