Éste, bajo el alias de Dr. Schmidt, obliga a Erik a mover una moneda en su escritorio utilizando sus poderes amenazándolo con matar a su madre. Finalmente Erik no puede hacerlo y Shaw acaba con su madre, lo que provoca su furia y el incremento de sus poderes. Luego en Westchester County, Charles Xavier también siendo un niño encuentra a Raven (Mystique) tratando de hacerse pasar por su madre; al identificarse como seres diferentes a los demás desarrollan una amistad y llegan a considerarse practicamente hermanos.
