La película tiene lugar en una pequeña ciudad costera del sur de los Estados Unidos, donde un padre separado se dispone a pasar el verano con una reacia hija adolescente, que preferiría estar en Nueva York. El padre trata de volver a conectar con su hija a través de lo único que tienen en común: la música. Es una historia de familia, amistad, secretos y perdón, y también de segundas oportunidades y primeros amores.
