  1. Of Memory and Literary Form : Making the Early Modern English Nation By Kyle Pivetti 2015 | 199 Pages | ISBN: 161149558X | EPUB | 1 MB This book opens with a crisis of recollection. In the early modern period, real political traumas like civil war and regicide exacerbated what were already perceived ruptures in myths of English descent. William Camden and other scholars had revealed that the facts of history could not justify the Arthurian myths, nor could history itself guarantee any moment of collective origin for the English people. Yet poets and playwrights concerned with the status of the emerging nation state did not respond with new material evidence. Instead, they turned to the literary structures that-through a range of what the author calls mnemonic effects-could generate the experience of a collective past. As Sir Philip Sidney recognized, verse depends upon the repetitions of rhyme and meter; consequently poetry "far exceedeth prose in the knitting up of memory." These poetic and linguistic forms expose national memory as a construction at potential odds with history, for memory operates like language-through a series of signifiers that acquire new meaning as one rearranges and rereads them. Moving from the tragedy Gorboduc (1561) to Dryden's Absalom and Achitophel (1681), Pivetti shows how such "knitting up of memory" created the shared pasts that generate nationhood. His work implies that memory emerges not from what actually occurred, but from the forms that compose it. Or to adapt the words of Paul Ricoeur: "we have nothing better than memory to signify that something has taken place." The same is true even when that "something" is nationhood. 4. Nurture in Time and Eternity By Robert Cummings Neville 2016 | 232 Pages | ISBN: 1498286216 | EPUB | 1 MB The dimension of eternity has been lost from much contemporary religious consciousness. Liberals tend to focus on action within time, as do conservatives, who see history as a battleground for a war of good against evil. Spiritual life, however, also requires nurturing a sense of eternity within time. These sermons from Marsh Chapel at Boston University follow the lectionary in highlighting the places of temporal life within eternity, and the places eternity is found in temporal life. The liturgical year is employed as the venue for articulating a comprehensive theology on the themes of the temporal and eternal aspects of Christian nurture. 8. Nuclear Revolution: Powering the Next Generation by Jack Spencer, Stephen Moore English | November 21, 2024 | ISBN: 088890357X | 222 pages | PDF | 2.80 Mb Skyrocketing energy prices are placing downward pressure on economic growth throughout the world. There seems to be no relief in sight, with hundreds of millions without access to reliable energy and with global energy consumption expected to grow by 50 percent over the next 30 years. Some would impose energy rationing―or in other words, slow human progress. But with nearly 46 percent of the world's population living on less than $5.50 per day, slowing human progress is unacceptable. The only solution is more energy and lots of it. Jack Spencer, in his upcoming book, Going Nuclear: Reestablishing American Commercial Nuclear Dominance, argues that nuclear energy offers real answers to power our homes and industries, clean our air and water, and maybe even take us to Mars. However, we have been getting nuclear power wrong for decades. Skeptics say that nuclear energy is too expensive and threatens the world with the proliferation of nuclear weapons material and radioactive waste. Proponents say that nuclear power needs and deserves the support of the state and the taxpayer, cradle to grave. The time has come, Spencer argues, to think big nuclear energy and pull it out of the time capsule that pop culture, environmental activists, lobbyists, peaceniks, and policymakers are all too content to leave nuclear in. Spencer writes that while the government-industry partnership that defined the early years of America's commercial nuclear rise was essential to the nation's security, reluctance to modernize that relationship has prevented the American nuclear industry from reaching its full potential. In its place, Spencer offers an alternative that shatters how we think about nuclear energy policy and realigns the responsibilities of government and industry with the incentives that will drive America to success. Going Nuclear describes why government intervention in the nuclear industry is a problem, how to move from the status quo to something new, and why such reforms will kick off an era of nuclear entrepreneurship and innovation. Over 70 years ago, nuclear energy entered the scene with great promise. Now more than ever, the world needs that promise delivered, and America can lead the way. 13. Not Just Numbers : Rediscovering the Promise and Power of Marketing Research By Lawrence D. Gibson 2016 | 239 Pages | ISBN: 1938548620 | EPUB | 1 MB In this provocative and insightful book, highly regarded marketing research expert Lawrence Gibson argues that the multi-billion-dollar marketing research industry has largely failed. Not Just Numbers shows you exactly why it's failed too much focus on gathering and analyzing data and how it must change. Gibson asserts that businesses need a different way of looking at marketing research, both more scientific and more practical. Marketing research needs to take a stronger role in helping to solve marketing problems and capitalize on marketing opportunities and not merely be a source of data. The logical steps required to solve marketing problems and realize opportunities are simply and clearly explained in the book. Cases from the author's experience show you how this problem-solving approach has worked in real-world situations and demonstrate the dramatic sales and financial gains you can achieve when marketing research is properly designed and used. The book also provides you practical guidance to enhance your problem-solving and political skills to help corporate leaders identify more profitable actions and make more profitable decisions. 15. Noonomy by Sergey Bodrunov English | November 26, 2024 | ISBN: 1774917793 | 298 pages | MOBI | 4.80 Mb 17876561532083981951 Noonomy by Sergey Bodrunov English | November 26, 2024 | ISBN: 1774917793 | 298 pages | MOBI | 4.80 Mb In this visionary work, the author suggests an original novel concept: the general theory of a new industrial society of the second generation that evolves toward a new quality of public existence-"noonomy." The volume explores the effect of modern technological shifts on human society. The author shows that technologies are about to undergo qualitative changes that will create new opportunities for personal development and the satisfaction of wants and, simultaneously, engender risks associated with growth opportunities of human interference with nature and technogenic stress on the environment. Based on the study of cutting-edge technologies and resulting socioeconomic shifts, Bodrunov makes the conclusion about the upcoming civilizational crisis. The crisis can be overcome through the formation of a new industrial society of the second generation reliant on knowledge-intensive material production and gradual removal of humans from immediate material production processes. These two trends can fully develop only subject to the transition from the current socioeconomic formation to a non-economic one-the noonomy. The book determines the limits of humans as rational, self-interested agents who make decisions to maximize their own interests, who remain the key figure of mainstream economy. In order to move beyond these limits and prevent self-destruction of human civilization, the author proposes a new methodology for the organization of socioeconomic knowledge-noonomy, which uses technological progress to introduce a rational core into the management of the chaotically developing economy, something which, the author posits, we have failed to accomplish so far due to cultural regression and moral decay. Systematically substantiating his theory by drawing on a wide range of sources and extensive empirical data, Dr. Bodrunov incorporates various components of rational socio-philosophical, political, and economic analysis with institutional theory and sociocultural analysis and focuses on the geopolitical economy approach to the issue under consideration. The volume begins with a discussion of the basic principles of the research method used in the book along with the an explanation of how the key role of material production constitutes an essential principle that underlies the approach to explaining social development processes. The author emphasizes an essential and ever-increasing role of knowledge in the development of production technologies that occurs through a change in technological modes and is accompanied by changes in the structure of manufactured products and evolution in the level of saturation and structure of human wants. The volume then assesses the first steps towards transitioning to a new stage of industrial production, a new type of knowledge-intensive material production that manufactures knowledge-intensive products. The volume considers the risks associated with the unchecked development of new technologies, which, while expanding opportunities for the satisfaction of human wants, also increases environmental stress and requires the need for finding occupations for people who used to be employed in dying professions. The volume examines how humans' withdrawal from immediate production and the disappearance of economic relations serves as a non-economic way of regulating production activities of an autonomous technosphere by steering its development in accordance with personal development needs. Introducing the English-speaking audience to a wide array of Russian twentieth-century authors that are little known abroad and whose studies on technological, economic and sociocultural transformations hold truly global significance, this eye-opening book will be of interest to those teaching and interested in the social philosophy of development of the human civilization and strategy of social and economic development. 17. Noncitizen Voting and American Democracy By Stanley A. Renshon 2009 | 148 Pages | ISBN: 0742562654 | EPUB | 1 MB Continuing large-scale migration to the United States raises the question of how best to integrate new immigrants into the American national community. Traditionally, one successful answer has been to encourage immigrants to learn our language, culture, history, and civic traditions. New immigrants would then be invited become citizens and welcomed as full members of the community. However, a concerted effort is underway to gain acceptance for, and implement, the idea that the United States should allow new immigrants to vote without becoming citizens. It is mounted by an alliance that brings together progressive academics, law professors, local and state political leaders, and community activists, all working to decouple voting from American citizenship. Their effort show signs of success, but is it really in America's best interests to allow new immigrants to have the vote? Their proposals have been much advocated, but little analyzed. Neither a polemic nor a whitewash, Stanley A. Renshon provides a careful analysis of the arguments put forward by advocates of this position on the basis of fairness, increasing democracy, civic learning, and moral necessity and asks: Do they really help immigrants become Americans? 18. Nominating the President : Evolution and Revolution in 2008 and Beyond By Jack Citrin; David Karol; David Karol 2009 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 0742566374 | PDF | 1 MB The 2008 presidential nominations were unprecedented in many ways. Marking another step in the democratization of the selection process and a surprising loss of control by party elites, the contests in both parties were unusually competitive and the outcomes belied the predictions of experts. This book offers a fresh look at the role of parties, the constraints of campaign finance, the status of front-runners, and the significance of rules, race, and gender in the post-reform era. In this volume, leading scholars assess the state of the process with original research about money, scheduling, superdelegates, and the role of race and gender in voting. Original analyses show how changes in campaign finance and the scheduling of primaries and caucuses helped determined the outcomes in both parties. Race, once thought of as a handicap, proved an asset for the Obama campaign. 2008 marked another milestone in the democratization of the nominations process with expanded participation by rank and file voters in donating money, voting, and using the Internet. This timely book provides a glimpse into the future of party nominations and elections. 19. Nominal Syntax at the Interfaces : A Comparative Analysis of Languages With Articles By Giuliana Giusti 2015 | 249 Pages | ISBN: 1443880248 | PDF | 1 MB This volume offers a new perspective on the syntax of nominal expressions in various European languages, arguing that articles do not directly and biunivocally realise semantic definiteness. The first two chapters provide an accessible introduction to recent developments in generative syntax, namely the cartographic and minimalist approaches, by focusing on the "imperfect" parallels between clauses and nominal expressions. The third chapter shows that feature sharing is not the result of a unique syntactic process, but, rather, the consequence of Merge, which creates syntactic structure instantiating two types of relation: Selection and Modification. It argues for three different ways of transferring features: Agreement allows for an argument (an independent phase, selected by a head) to re-enter the computation as part of the predicate of the new phase. It targets Person features and is not involved in the feature sharing triggered by modification. Concord copies the features of N (notably gender, number and case, where this is present). It is the result of Modification and can coexist with Agreement. Finally, Projection is triggered by multiple internal mergers of the head, bundled with all its interpretable and uninterpretable features, which may be realized in different segments. The fourth chapter focuses on the nature of determiners such as articles, demonstratives, quantifiers, possessive adjectives and pronouns, personal pronouns and proper names, and shows that only articles have the properties to be attributed to "functional heads" because they are a segment of a scattered nominal head. The rest of the volume is devoted to the analysis of syntactic phenomena, such as double definiteness, expletive articles, and weak and strong adjectival inflection, by means of the proposal that (scattered) nominal or adjectival heads concord with their modifiers. This approach reinterprets head movement in a fashion that makes it compatible with minimalist requirements, provides an explanation for the apparent optionality of head movement, eliminates the typology of head movements by adjunction or substitution, and gives an original answer to the doubts raised about the legitimacy of the very notion of "functional category". 21. No Time : Stress and the Crisis of Modern Life By Heather Menzies 2005 | 181 Pages | ISBN: 155365045X | EPUB | 1 MB These days, we all have too much to do and too little time. This book is about how technology has changed our lives and what we can do about it. What happened to the promise that technology would give us more leisure time? Instead, we are working harder and for longer hours than we did fifteen years ago, squeezed and scattered and stressed to the point of burnout. We are trying to cope with a constantly accelerating pace brought about by cutbacks and restructuring, but also by computers and cell phones that, in their super-efficient dispatch of data, text and voice messages and the like, let us do more things faster than ever before. Yet somewhere between the multi-tasking pace and the sea of data divorced from real life, we're losing touch with ourselves and with each other. We're even losing a sense of how to tell when things go wrong and how to take action when they do. We need to take back our lives, and renew the humanity of our social institutions. 23. No Child Left Behind : Past, Present, and Future By William Hayes; Adam Urbanski 2008 | 131 Pages | ISBN: 1578868351 | EPUB | 1 MB While few would quarrel with the goal of the No Child Left Behind legislation, the nation is badly divided over whether the law is having a positive effect on our schools. At the same time, it is also true that most Americans, including many professional educators, have only a limited understanding of the content and scope of the legislation. As we are currently engaged in a national debate about the future role of the federal government in the field of education, it is essential that people become better informed about the history, content, and results of No Child Left Behind. This book is a valuable tool informing the current discussion on the reauthorization of the law. As a result, the reader will be better able to make up his own mind as to the direction we should take as a nation in pursuing the noble objective of ensuring that no child is left behind. 25. Nine Minutes Past Midnight : Medical Encounters with a Miraculous God By Ernest F. Crocker 2013 | 194 Pages | ISBN: 1780781040 | EPUB | 1 MB "If you are a believer this book is a must read. If you are a sceptic this is a must read for you too. If you think you are too "intellectual" for Christian belief let this book tell you how wrong you are and inspire you to try a better way with God, instead of without Him. Highly recommended - a great Australian book which will blow you away." (Marian Klitzke, (Tasmania), a retired social worker and ex-owner of a Christian bookshop. Emailed to the author and posted on You-tube with the promo.) Trained at the University of New South Wales, Dr Ern Crocker is an experienced nuclear medicine physician, and the first to practise ultrasound in Australia. As he reconciled his Christian faith with his understanding of medicine, Dr Crocker became aware that God was working alongside him during an after-hours medical emergency. In this book, Dr Crocker recounts this life-changing encounter with the miraculous power of God, and also presents the testimonies of many other doctors who, like him, have experienced the presence of a "silent partner" as they carry out their medical duties. Readers will be amazed at these insiders'' accounts of how God intervenes in the world of medicine today! "An essential read for those struggling with the considerable challenge of integrating a passion for the science of medicine, the art of compassionate holistic care and a love of the God who has created them." Dr Michael Burke MBBS, PhD, FRACGP, FAICD Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship of Australia "It is my hope that this book will encourage a large number of people to recognize that their hope lies with God, rather than with themselves." Ben Carson MD, Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Professor of Neurological Surgery, Oncology, Plastic Surgery, and Pediatrics, Johns Hopkins University. Author of Gifted Hands "This is an inspirational book. I recommend it to all, but especially to students and young professionals in health care. Over and over again it shows that God is faithful to those who seek him and intervenes in the lives of his followers. He is the healer, whether it be through medical or miraculous means. May it encourage those in the medical world to go after God more and more and see his kingdom come in health care in the nations." Dr Ken Curry, Health Care In Christ, Australia "To some, a Christian doctor is an oxymoron in our day and age. Dr Ern Crocker in his book Nine Minutes Past Midnight demonstrates keen intellectual precision whole at the same time positioning himself in a very real faith. I love the reality of the book. I enjoy the stories of incredible medical and technological breakthrough. I am in awe when healing comes when doctors know that it was not their efforts alone that won the day. Both types are stories of divine intervention. I am comforted that others struggle with the reality that healing is not effected in every case, either by divine or by natural means. The reality of our limitations as shared in this book, serves to remind us that there is still much to learn, and much to keep us humble, even while celebrating great success. This book and its heroes are worth celebrating." David Crabtree, Senior Pastor, DaySpring Church, Australia "Nine Minutes Past Midnight is a compelling book, demonstrating perfectly what it looks like when the kingdom of heaven is expressed through the hands of those in the medical field. With interviews and testimonies from professionals all over the world, Dr Ernest Crocker has courageously painted a clear picture of what it looks like when the hand of God is upon and working through doctors surrendered to Him. This book will encourage your faith as you read about the many who have encountered God and have successfully carried Him into the world of medicine." Bill Johnson, Senior Pastor, Bethel Church, California. Author of When Heaven Invades Earth and Secrets To Imitating God Nine Minutes Past Midnight is essentially a compilation of interviews, conversations, and anecdotes, involving both doctors and patients. The purpose of Crocker''s assembled interviews, conversations, and anecdotes, was to set out "factual evidence" - sometimes quite startling factual evidence - entrusted to him by "prominent medical practitioners of sound mind and undisputed word" (thereby confirming Crocker''s own relevant experiences) regarding "the manner in which a ''personal'' God interacts and intervenes in the lives of doctors, their patients, families and friends." This factual evidence related to God''s intervening in the healing process today, not simply in the past. Put differently, the central theme of Nine Minutes Past Midnight is the experience by doctors and patients of God''s presence now in day-to-day medical practice as the "third person involved in patient care and in the healing process...that unseen person or ''silent partner''." Rarely does a reviewer get to write about a book as remarkable as Ernest Crocker''s Nine Minutes Past Midnight. Dr Colin Goodwin (extract from review) "Mr Ernest Crocker does not work alone but with a ''silent partner'' he calls on during his treatment. As a young doctor he found just how powerful this ''silent partner'' is when called out to a medical emergency at Nine Minutes Past Midnight. It was beyond explanation how this woman, pronounced dead twice by other medical personnel, lived without any lasting effects. This miracle encouraged and changed Dr Crocker, the first nuclear medicine physician in Australia to practise ultrasound. Nine Minutes Past Midnight begins with this incredible story and is followed by Dr Crocker''s medical and spiritual journey and stories of other Christian doctors he encountered and interviewed over the years. It is a book of incredible faith, from medical personnel praying and trusting God to heal patients when their prognosis and ethics tell them the opposite, to the faith of patients whose lives are healed when their prognosis is non-existent. This truly inspirational book would be a great encouragement to those training or working in the health field. They will learn to trust God the healer would be a great encouragement to those training or working in the health field. They will learn to trust God the healer to work in the lives of patients either through medical or miraculous means and realise the limits of medical abilities against God''s healing power. Highly recommended." - Elizabeth Gardner Weekly Challenge New Zealand''s Christian Newspaper, 23/06/2012 RapidGator https://rg.to/file/2e05e5074ba523a7f5f86e1f5ecac655/8lcwi.7z.html Fileaxa https://fileaxa.com/k2zws1iwmywr/8lcwi.7z Fikper https://fikper.com/D8QMMhtBAH/8lcwi.7z.html
