Bridge includes pop elements, fragments of spoken word, and the chordal colorings of Mike Moreno's electric guitar and Taylor Eigsti's piano. On Scott's follow-up, 2023's Corridors, he leads a trio that includes tenor saxophonist Walter Smith III who, like Scott, is a Houston native, and the bassist Reuben Rogers, who is originally from the Virgin Islands. The three-player setting offers pleasures distinct from the denser predecessor. The genesis of this recording started during the pandemic and the smaller group has a sense of intimacy that resonates with that situation. Scott wrote or co-wrote all of the album's material except for Bobby Hutcherson's "Isn't This My Sound Around Me?." The title track opens with a Rogers bass solo marked by pinched harmonics and slides. When Rogers' bandmates enter, sax and bass engage in interplay where phrases start on one instrument and are finished or riffed on by the other. Scott's drumming is full of surprising details that weave everything together. It's a sharply alert performance and one imbued with mystery. "A Voice Through the Door" incorporates melodic contours that recall classical music. The piece starts with an extended unaccompanied tenor sax statement by Smith, who intones every note with care. Brushed drums and cymbals and steadying bass emerge to provide super nuanced accompaniment. (A nice touch: Scott quietly singing the melody in tandem with the sax.) When Rogers solos, the contrast of his thick sound with the light-as-air drumming and saxophone is striking. The finely paced Corridors closes with "Threshold," where Scott's initial drum salvo leads to the punchy theme. Smith moves from bluesy lines to more abstruse shapes with ease as Scott and Rogers dig into rhythms that can stutter or swing. "Me, Dominique and Adam were in NYC going from our apt to the studio every day. It was a glorious time for us - we would just wake up inspired and excited about everything we were doing. Songs from this album appeared in countless tv shows, commercials and movies, putting us on the map in Hollywood among the music supervisors and directors, ultimately exposing us to a much larger universe. It was without a doubt the most fun we three ever had making music together. It was a special record for us and still is probably the favorite among our fanbase. For the past 20 years they have been asking for it on vinyl, and with Adam now gone, and IVY signing to Bar None Records to re release our entire catalogue of work, it was finally time to memorialize Apartment Life on vinyl." "Despite being quite ambitious and driven, Dominique, Adam and I were not early risers, at all," says Chase. "Although 'Sleeping Late' started as a joke between us, underneath it's cutesy, ironic exterior lives a more serious quintessential urban tale about being stuck at home and not wanting to leave. Dominique always loved the Velvet Underground song 'After Hours,' loved the way Mo Tucker sang it, and tried to embody Mo's innocent naivety and spirit in her vocal performance. We kept it simple and dry, inspired by early Beatles productions. We didn't put it on the Apartment Life album since it was meant to be silly and sort of tongue and cheek, but we ultimately used it as a bonus track for the Japanese release, figuring over there most people wouldn't understand the lyrics and never know what lazy idiots we were." 1.     FLAC (tracks) / MP3 320 kbps | Pop | 38 min | 235 / 92 MB "Torero" knüpft an seine großen Erfolge nahtlos an. Mit 8 Stücken zaubert Helge sich zurück ins Musikgeschehen. Ob "The Last Torero" oder "The Guilty Doctor": "Ich dachte noch 'Ach, müsste doch mal wieder mein Studio etwas auslasten!', dann rief ich Sandro an, wir sollten mal in diesem meinen Studio was aufnehmen. Daraus wurden dann mehrere Sitzungen an ungefähr einem Tag. Sandro kam aus Norddeutschland angereist mit seiner Gitarre. Die kleine Flamenco Gitarre hat es in sich! Zusammen jammten wir die nagelneuen Songs auf Tonband. Anschließend overdubte ich ein paar Instrumente dazu. Fertig war das Kunstwerk. Nach nur 3 bis 5 Wochen. Der Torero-Anzug ist für das Titelstück verantwortlich. Auch habe ich mir in dieser Zeit eine neue Trompete gekauft, mit der ich zum Beispiel "Horses" aufgenommen habe, die ich jetzt immer mitnehme, auch zum Spazieren gehen. Das Cello auf "The Last Torero" bereitete einige Schwierigkeiten, denn ich hab ja, ehrlich gesagt, über 50 Jahre kein Cello mehr gespielt, außer so manchmal im Vorübergehen ein paar Noten. Dann habe ich den Cellisten Halfmanthorp Wonderwheel the 26. verpflichtet aus den USA. Er ist ein Könner. Dadurch klingt es so, als hätte ich es selbst gespielt. Ich habe das Plattencover selbst fotografieren müssen, weil mein Hausfototgraf Liam Harbäckhe sich den Arm gebrochen hat. Schade, er ist eine Koryphäe in seinem Metier. Das Foto auf der Rückseite der Schallplatte ist in Murcia aufgenommen, es hat einige Zeit gebraucht, das Set so herzurichten, bis es mir gefiel. Viel Spaß bei der Anhörung dieser Schallplatte. Recorded on the band's 1973 world tour, it features songs such as "Matty Groves" and "Sloth," as well as the Swarbrick instrumental "Fiddlestix," their then current single "Rosie," and a nod to the group's origins as interpreters of American rock & roll and folk-rock, in the form of Dylan's "Down in the Flood" and Chris Kenner's "Something You Got." Denny's solo abilities are showcased on "John the Gun." The problem is the uneven quality of the recording, from three different venues, each seemingly lacking intimacy and warmth. This may explain why it was never released in America, and why Island released the superior Live At the L.A. Troubadour/House Full just two years later.
