Sidney Bechet, falleció el mismo día que cumplía 62 años. En la localidad de Juan-Les-Pins, hay un busto en su recuerdo y en Paris, existe una calle con su nombre que hace esquina con la Rue Armstrong, el único apellido ilustre que le pudo disputar el honor de ser el primer gran solista de la historia del jazz.
