Navigating the Moon: Advanced Techniques for Lunar Exploration and Settlement
English | 2025 | ASIN : B0DVM2M7MP | 125 Pages | EPUB | 0.2 MB
The moon does not have a global magnetic field just like Earth does, which makes traditional compasses not to work on the moon's soil. Even though in certain regions on the moon do have a magnetic field, the magnetic fields in those regions are very weak for compasses to sustain. A traditional compass has north and south and a needle. The needle won't work without a great amount of magnetic field. The book focuses on modern techniques that can be used on the moon for navigation, as compasses won't work for moon features. Rather, the technologies that will be used are inertial navigation, global lunar positioning system (LPS), NASA's LunaNet ,ESA's Moonlight Initiative and beacon networks. The moon currently does not have any navigational infrastructure for humans to navigate, which the earth already has, like relay satellites and other satellites. The book focuses on a moon-based infrastructure to sustain life and to be able to live on the moon. The book also showed older traditional techniques that sailors used in the past on earth and the astronauts used during the Apollo missions. But for a sustainable moon-based society, a moon-based navigational infrastructure is a must to have and to navigate on the moon.
