The elementary OS team has released a stable version of its operating system (codenamed Circe), based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) and Linux kernel 6.8. The new release brings many improvements, including a modern Pantheon desktop environment with additional features and improvements.

The elementary OS shell provides a functional and laconic design, reminiscent of macOS with its signature dock panel. The system also features simplified navigation, which makes it convenient even for beginners. The developers emphasize that the distribution is free and open. Here are some more requirements that were presented to elementary OS at the dawn of the project.
- Aesthetics. Make the system visually attractive and user-friendly, even if he has no experience with Linux.
- Speed and performance. Reduce hardware requirements so that the system can work even on old computers. All this is still relevant.
- Security and privacy. Provide the user with tools to manage their data and security.
- Open source. Make sure that the system is completely transparent, and users can modify it to suit their needs.
- Own ecosystem. Develop unique applications that work optimally within the distribution.
