Description : The authors of ZEMAX claim that their program can do everything related to optics. It is very convenient for calculating complex devices with expensive elements, when you need to know the exact parameters of each element in order to meet the budget.
ZEMAX contains a huge database on the characteristics of various types of glass, is able to calculate the most complex design of lens systems, mirrors, diffraction gratings, interference and absorption filters and other elements. It displays the path of rays in such systems, visually depicting the behavior of rays in different parts of the spectrum, calculates the aberrations of the system, its resolution, light loss and many other parameters. To fully master this program, you need to devote more than one year to it, but for private tasks, in principle, a month of hard work and reading the documentation is enough.
According to the calculations performed using ZEMAX, you can safely build a real optical device, being sure that its real parameters will have minimal discrepancies with the calculated ones.
