Cuando Beth Emhoff regresa de un viaje de negocios en Hong Kong, tiene síntomas que ella atribuye al jet-lag. Dos días después, muere y los doctores le dicen a su desconsolado esposo que no tienen idea de la causa. Pronto, otros sufren los mismos síntomas misteriosos con el mismo descenlance.
