Sinopsis:

Rafe Spall interpreta en este estreno a William Shakespeare, está considerado como el autor más importante de la historia de la literatura inglesa. Escribió decenas de textos que se estudian en las universidades y sirven de ejemplo a los escritores contemporáneos. Pero, ¿fueron suyas todas esas obras? ¿Las escribió de su puño y letra? Algunos investigadores sostienen que no fue así, porque un hombre de pueblo como Shakespeare jamás habría podido elaborar tramas tan sofisticadas y emocionantes como las de ?Macbeth?, ?Enrique V?, ?Hamlet? o ?Romeo y Julieta?.

Esta película de Roland Emmerich ahonda en la supuesta falsedad de las obras firmadas por Shakespeare y lo explica en un contexto de intrigas políticas que tienen un punto en común: la reina Isabel I de Inglaterra (Vanessa Redgrave)?
