La cinta nos relatará la historia de un matrimonio (Cillian Murphy y Thandie Newton) que intenta que su relación siga adelante, de ahí que tomen la decisión de irse de vacaciones a una isla remota. No obstante, su tranquilidad se rompe cuando encuentran en la playa a un soldado ataviado con un traje que le protege de cualquier riesgo biológico.

El inesperado visitante les asegura que un virus letal está matando a millones de personas en el continente.
