Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) es un actor de gran éxito cuya vida de excesos y lujo cambia por completo al aparecer su hija de once años (Elle Fanning) sin aviso previo. Johnny es una estrella de cine que vive en el lujoso hotel Chateau Marmont de Hollywood, conduce un ferrari y sale con bellas mujeres sin comprometerse con ninguna. Su vida es fácil y confortable, pero todo cambia cuando en el hotel aparece su hija preadolescente, fruto de un antiguo matrimonio fallido.
