En el verano de 1988, tres amigos están a punto de asistir a una fiesta fuera de control tras licenciarse en la Universidad. Uno de ellos, Matt Franklin (Topher Grace), quien debería trabajar para la compañía Fortune 500 y comenzar su ascenso en la empresa, pero inexplicablemente para su familia y sus amigos el chico trabaja a tiempo parcial en el mostrador de una tienda de vídeos en una Galería. La posible razón es que allí está Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer), el amor platónico de Matt en el instituto. Cuando ella le invita a una fiesta, Matt cree que por fin podrá tener una oportunidad con la chica de sus sueños. Allí acudirá con su hermana gemela (Anna Faris) y su mejor amigo Barry (Dan Fogler). Desde el robo de un coche hasta una propuesta de matrimonio, éstas y otras experiencias serán las que tendrá que
