El Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) vuelve a la consciencia después de un accidente de automóvil en Berlín para descubrir que su esposa (January Jones) de repente no le reconoce y otro hombre (Aidan Quinn) ha asumido su identidad. Ignorado por las autoridades, que no le creen, y perseguido por unos misteriosos asesinos, se encuentra solo, cansado y a la fuga. Ayudado por una improbable aliada (Diane Kruger), Martin se sumerge completamente en un misterio mortal que le obliga a cuestionarse su cordura y su identidad y que le hace preguntarse hasta dónde tiene que llegar para descubrir la verdad.
