Anora Fleece lo tiene crudo. Su marido es un maltratador, sus hijos no la respetan y vive en medio de la nada, donde se siente insignificante. Un buen día, Imogene Cochran se muda al vecindario. Imogene vende maquillaje “Kathy K. Kosmetics, para la mujer de piel café”. A los vecinos no les gustan las pieles café, pero eso no impide que Imogene y Anora se hagan amigas, bueno, algo más que amigas. Cuando Cheb, el marido de Anora, las descubre, se desata una catástrofe, pero la historia da un giro con un disparo accidental de Anora, que resulta letal para Cheb. Es entonces cuando Anora e Imogene meten a los niños en el coche Kathy K., con el cadáver en el maletero y parten en un viaje en familia para enterrar a papá.
