Sam Flynn, un rebelde joven de 27 años es atormentado por la misteriosa desaparición de su padre, Kevin Flynn, quien fue tiempo atrás conocido mundialmente como el máximo desarrollador de video juegos. Cuando Sam va tras las pistas de una extraña señal procedente de la Flynn Arcade —una señal que sólo pudo ser enviada por su padre— termina siendo absorbido por el mundo digital en el que ha estado viviendo Kevin Flynn durante los últimos 20 años. Junto con la intrépida guerrera Quorra, padre e hijo se embarcan en un viaje de vida o muerte a través de un mundo cibernético visualmente asombroso y plagado de peligros: un universo creado por Kevin que se ha vuelto mucho más avanzada, gracias a los algoritmos isomorfos; con vehículos, armas y paisajes nunca antes imaginados y con un despiadado villano que está dispuesto a todo.
