Teniendo como escenario la ciudad de Nueva York, The Other Guys presenta al detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell), un contador forense que está más interesado en el trabajo de oficina que salir a la calle, y el detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg), un hombre rudo que es forzado a tener a Allen como su compañero. Allen y Terry idolatran a los mejores policías de la ciudad Danson y Highsmith (Dwayne Johnson y Samuel L. Jackson), pero cuando llega el momento, “The Other Guys”, lo aprovechan aunque las cosas no salgan como estaban planeadas.
