La película El Cubo (Cube) trata sobre un grupo de personas que aparecen encerradas en un cubo con puertas en todos sus lados que conectan a otro cubo cada una y así sucesivamente. Las personas no saben por qué se encuentran ahí e intentan salir pero cada habitáculo contiene trampas mortales como ácidos, cuchillas, gases y más, así que tienen que descifrar la forma de salir de ahí. La primera (El Cubo) y la tercera (El Cubo Zero), precuela de la primera, son muy similares pues los cubos se parecen mucho y tienen trampas similares. La segunda (El Cubo 2 - Hipercubo) es un cubo diferente pues introduce la coexistencia de universos paralelos de modo que estos se interfieren los unos a los otros y las trampas son más sofisticadas, existe en ella un juego con el cambio de la velocidad del flujo del tiempo y la gravedad.
